Lunabelle Lactation Services
Breast pump rental services currently available.
Most clients begin with a telephone/email consultation. If your question can be resolved with an information sheet or a referral to a community resource, then there is no charge (so don’t be afraid to call!). There are free resources in most communities to assist breastfeeding mothers with basic breastfeeding challenges- see the Resources Page.
If your concern cannot be resolved with a referral in the community or a telephone chat, a visit at home is often the most effective next step. The initial session usually takes approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours to complete*.

Lactation consultation session includes:
-Discussing your short-term and long-term breastfeeding goals
-Taking a prenatal, birth, and feeding history.
-Observation of a feeding
-A feeding assessment, where the consultant carefully and critically observes the baby's feeding cues, behaviors, and response to the feeding, as well as the ability to transfer milk – a complex, integrated activity.
-Documenting the findings and composing a summary of the plan agreed upon by the mother and the consultant, which includes any referrals to other care providers and support services. Carefully answering any lingering questions the parents may have.
-Giving a copy of the plan to the mother and reiterating any follow-up arrangements.
-Writing a summary and communication with pertinent health care providers.
-Conducting follow-up meetings and/or phone calls, as long as needed, with subsequent documentation and sharing of the plan.
*Appointment times vary depending on your needs and the readiness of the baby to show us how s/he is breastfeeding.
An in-person visit is the most effective way to assess what’s going on with breastfeeding difficulties and make a plan. In an ideal world, every community in the country would have qualified breastfeeding professionals to deal with the more complex situations that arise. We realize this is often the case for the families we support in China. We offer this service to families who have certain types of breastfeeding problems that they cannot address within their community. There are some circumstances that cannot be handled via video conference.

Most mothers can expect to have breastfeeding go just fine, without needing the expertise of a lactation consultant. During a prenatal breastfeeding consultation, we discuss your goals and expectations of breastfeeding, your worries and develop a plan for how to address any specific concerns or challenges you may face. We also discuss some tips, tricks, and strategies for getting breastfeeding off to a good start.
